چکیده

The irradiation of living organisms with ultra sound causes effects in several ways (E l’p in er1) . High intensities damage the cells markedly, causing irreversible cell changes, rupture of cell walls etc. But even low intensities of ultrasound have been shown to affect cell parameters (see review by H ill2) . In this paper we will show some qualitative results of ultrasonic irradiation of Amoeba proteus when rather low intensities of ultrasound are used.

Oriented thick and thin filaments in amoeba proteus

Actin and myosin filaments as a foundation of contractile systems are well established from ameba to man (3). Wolpert et al. (19) isolated by differential centrifugation from Amoeba proteus a motile fraction composed of filaments which moved upon the addition of ATP. Actin filaments are found in amebas (1, 12, 13) which react with vertebrate heavy meromyosin (HMM), forming arrowhead complexes a...

Extracellular Calcium Changes the Morphology of Induced Pinocytosis in Amoeba proteus

In Amoeba proteus a typical induced pinocytosis is manifested after external application of different agents: aminoacides, proteins, monovalent cations. This pinocytosis is a kind of fluid-phase endocytosis driven by cortical cytoskeleton and may be compared to macropinocytosis in Dictyostelium discoideum in which large fluid-filled vesicles are formed (Maniak 2002). During induced pinocytosis ...

The effect of temperature variation on the multiplication rate of two strains of Amoeba proteus

The effect of temperature variation on the multiplication rates of two strains of Amoeba proteus and the corresponding heterotransfer strains obtained by transplantation of nuclei between the 'parent' strains, has been studied. The two 'parent' strains multiply at a similar rate at 17° C but at different rates at 27 C and 11° C. The multiplication rates of the heterotransfers follow the cytopla...
